Job summary

Victoria ISD Maintenance - Custodial is seeking a part-time custodian to perform routine cleaning and maintenance across district facilities, promoting safety, cleanliness and orderly building operations.

The ideal candidate can read and follow written instructions, operate cleaning equipment, and lift up to 50 pounds. Starting immediately, qualified applicants join a team that supports school operations during extended hours and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• High school or trade/technical degree preferred.
• No prior experience required.
• Able to operate cleaning equipment safely.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleaning schedule for floors, restrooms, windows, and surfaces.
• Keep the school buildings and grounds neat and clean.
• Dispose of trash according to local guidelines.
• Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Assist with lunchroom setup and events.
• Perform preventive maintenance to ensure safety and comfort.
• Make minor repairs and report major needs to Maintenance Department.
• Move furniture or equipment within buildings as directed.
• Work overtime when required and follow district policies.
• Follow safety procedures and report unsafe conditions.

Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands:

Tools/Equipment Used: Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, hand tools, shampooer, lawn mower, edger and weed eater

Posture/ Motion: Frequent walking, standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (lifting up to 50 pounds required)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide and statewide travel

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; communicate effectively and professionally at all times; work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and ladders. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Maintaining a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment and restrooms.

2. Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and play areas neat and clean.

3. Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.

4. Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.

Maintenance and Repair

5. Assist with lunchroom set up, including arranging tables and chairs.

6. Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health and safety of students and staff.

7. Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to Maintenance Department.

8. Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by principal.

9. Assist in setting up facilities for special events.

10. Work overtime in the course of job duties, when required.

11. Act professional with fellow employees and students and follow District policies.

Safety

12. Assist with opening and closing building each school day.

13. Follow established procedures for locking, checking and safeguarding facilities.

14. Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly 15. Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.

16. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

17. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.

18. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

19. Report accident to Head Custodian.

20. Follow all safety procedures of Victoria Independent School District.

21. Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary: $11.29 to $15.92 Per Hour
