The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for Custodian in San Antonio, Texas.

Job Summary

Provides a variety of cleaning duties and maintains the building to ensure the upkeep, neatness, and cleanliness of the same on a daily basis.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Knowledge of effective cleaning and sanitizing practices, general building and grounds maintenance practices and procedures including proper safety precautions.
• Ability to perform routine cleaning duties, minor repairs, and maintenance activities of buildings and grounds.
• Ability to use and maintain cleaning and maintenance equipment and tools effectively and in a safe manner.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
• Ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle following all laws, regulations, and policies.

Education And Experience

No formal education required, and six months experience performing general janitorial and general maintenance duties; or any equivalent training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving lifting and carrying heavy objects.
• Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
• Ability to exert physical energy for janitorial and maintenance work.
• Ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle safely following all laws, regulations, and policies.
• Work involves standing, squatting, climbing, bending, and walking; duties may include sitting briefly.
• Frequent physical effort associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying objects up to 75 lbs.
