Job summary

Butte College is seeking a Custodian II to maintain clean, safe, and sanitary facilities across campus sites. The role handles cleaning, supply delivery, equipment setup for events, and basic maintenance tasks with a focus on reliability and safety.

Position Highlights

The mission of the Custodial Services Department is to provide innovative approaches and outstanding customer service while delivering a clean, sanitary, and safe environment in a cost-efficient manner. The department also prepares and maintains campus facilities for athletic and various approved special events. The custodial staff is responsible for cleaning the buildings at all Butte College's campuses.

This position is responsible for the inventory and delivery of the custodial supplies including washing and delivering towels; assisting with the storage and disposal of District archives and surplus inventory; coordinating the delivery of Disable Student Programs and Services (DSPS) chairs to classrooms; installing and assembling furniture; setup and tear down equipment for events; and utilizing a computerized maintenance management system to create, complete, and close work orders.

The person in this position will also operate heavy equipment to perform various tasks including but not limited to an aerial lift, forklift, backhoe, and other equipment and tools including a weed eater, edger, leaf blower, miscellaneous hand and power tools, and more.

The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Over the summer, the schedule changes to Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (see CSEA 15.11 for shift differential compensation). The work schedule may vary dependent upon District need and may include work on weekends, holidays (CSEA 8.7.4), and on-call shifts (CSEA 15.13).

Minimum Qualifications
Education / Experience
  • High School Graduate or General Educational Development (GED); AND
  • Two (2) years of general experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this class; OR
  • Any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Special and/Or Other Requirements
  • Required to hold and maintain a valid driver license throughout the duration of employment with the district.
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain within the first 6-months of employment (during probationary period):
    • A valid Forklift Operators Certificate*
  • Travel is required.

*District will provide training for certifications if required to perform the essential responsibilities of the position.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • The successful applicant will be required to complete a medical history questionnaire and must agree to undergo and pass a pre-employment physical examination, based on the physical requirements of the position, prior to employment. The physician will be selected and paid for by the District. Disabilities not related to the essential physical job requirements will not preclude the applicant from being hired.
  • Education Code § 87408.6 states that no person shall be initially employed by a community college district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination within the past sixty (60) days to determine that they are free of active tuberculosis.
  • As a condition of employment, the District requires that you provide fingerprints prior to beginning work. You may be fingerprinted at Butte College Human Resources by appointment, or you may be fingerprinted at another agency. Should you be fingerprinted at another agency, the rolling fee charged by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the fingerprint report is the employee's responsibility at the time of printing.
