Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a dedicated Custodian to join our school facilities team. This full-time role focuses on cleaning, safety, and a welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will work independently and with a team, following established procedures and safety protocols to maintain high standards throughout classrooms, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.

Evenings and weekend availability may be required to support events and after-hours cleaning.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous custodial or janitorial experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and supplies.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy items and perform physical tasks.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality work.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
• Must be able to work independently and manage time efficiently.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if necessary.
• Background check clearance as required by school district policies.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning and sanitization of classrooms, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; dust and wipe down surfaces, including furniture and fixtures.
• Empty trash receptacles and recycle bins, ensuring proper disposal of waste.
• Maintain and restock cleaning supplies and materials as needed.
• Assist with the setup and breakdown of furniture and equipment for events and activities.
• Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities as required.
• Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
• Follow established safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
• Collaborate with other custodial staff and school personnel to achieve cleanliness and safety standards.
