Job summary

Kansas City University is seeking a Custodian I to perform general cleaning tasks across university buildings, including classrooms, offices, and common areas. This on-site role requires good English communication, reliability, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds; custodial experience is preferred and you will help maintain a safe, clean campus in alignment with our core values.

Duties include dusting, mopping, trash removal, restroom sanitation, window and fixture cleaning, and restocking

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (reading, writing, comprehension).
• Cleaning/custodial experience preferred.
• Must have the physical ability to perform cleaning tasks and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Performs cleaning functions such as dusting, mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, trash collection and disposal, and cleaning walls, vents, windows and fixtures.
• Cleans restrooms using germicide solution, polishes fixtures, replaces disposables, and refills soap dispensers.
• Represent department and the University in a positive manner in accordance with Core Values and expectations.
• Performs other duties as assigned to meet organizational goals.

Job Description:

The Custodian I performs general cleaning tasks within University buildings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs cleaning functions including dust, mop, wet mop, vacuum, gathers and disposes trash, washes walls, vents, windows, fixtures, etc.
• Cleans restrooms using germicide solution for control of bacteria and odors, polishes fixtures, replaces disposables such as toilet tissues, paper towels and fills soap dispensers
• Represent department and the University favorably and in accordance with established Core Values and expectations
• Perform other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization

Qualifications:

• Knowledge typically obtained through a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading, writing, and understanding information necessary to perform the essential functions of the position
• Cleaning/custodial experience preferred
• Must have manual ability to perform general cleaning, which may include moving furniture
• Requires frequent bending, stooping, reaching, walking, and the ability to lift 50 pounds.
