Job summary

Kansas City University is seeking a Custodian I to perform general cleaning tasks within university buildings. The role involves dusting, mopping, vacuuming, restroom sanitation, and restocking supplies. You will help maintain a safe, clean campus aligned with university Core Values.

The position requires basic cleaning experience, the ability to communicate in English, and physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds. This is a hands-on facilities role supporting students and staff daily.

Responsibilities

Job Description: The Custodian I performs general cleaning tasks within University buildings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs cleaning functions including dust, mop, wet mop, vacuum, gathers and disposes trash, washes walls, vents, windows, fixtures, etc.
• Cleans restrooms using germicide solution for control of bacteria and odors, polishes fixtures, replaces disposables such as toilet tissues, paper towels and fills soap dispensers.
• Represent department and the University favorably and in accordance with established Core Values and expectations.
• Perform other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization.

Qualifications

• Knowledge typically obtained through a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading, writing, and understanding information necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
• Cleaning/custodial experience preferred.
• Must have manual ability to perform general cleaning, which may include moving furniture.
• Requires frequent bending, stooping, reaching, walking, and the ability to lift 50 pounds.
