Job summary

Chugach Government Solutions in San Diego, California, is seeking a Custodian to perform daily custodial maintenance across designated facilities at BOS Naval Base San Diego. You will clean, sanitize, and maintain restrooms, floors, windows, and common areas under the supervision of the Custodial Site Supervisor.

Job Overview

Under the direction of the Custodial Site Supervisor, the incumbent will provide support for the daily custodial maintenance and operation of all facilities at BOS Naval Base San Diego. The incumbent will perform a full range of custodial duties related to the care, maintenance, and cleaning of all assigned buildings and facilities. Keeps supervisor apprised of unique situations and problems encountered.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:

• Able to do a variety of tasks in any single day.
• Plan, organize work, and meet all deadlines.
• Incumbent will clean and sanitize restroom facilities and related fixtures including drinking fountains, refrigerated water coolers, custodial mop sinks, restroom sinks, urinals, showers, toilets, sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors.
• Responsible for floor care – stripping, buffing, waxing, and carpet cleaning.
• Replenish supplies in restrooms, facilities, etc.
• Responsible for ensuring all dusting (both high and low) areas are maintained as necessary and polishing furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment.
• Wash windows (both interior and exterior), mirrors, and walls. Washing windows may require the use of ladders.
• Empty, clean, and sanitize waste receptacles.
• Move and arrange furniture and equipment for cleaning and replacement when completed.
• Responsible for cleaning window blinds either Venetian or vertical as required.
• Identify and report building maintenance needs in assigned buildings and facilities.
• Perform specialized projects such as restoration programs on floors, walls, ceilings, furniture, and other items.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay Rate:

$17.79/hr

Job Requirements

Mandatory:

• General knowledge of hand and power tools.
• Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Must have excellent organizational skills.
• Mature judgment and ability to work with little or no supervision.
• Be a U.S. Citizen or legal residency alien.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Valid state driver’s license with excellent driving record (must provide current driving record).
• Must be able to pass background investigation.

Preferred:

• At least 2 years Janitorial experience.
• At least 1 year floor care experience.

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed mostly indoors, with some outdoor required when directed. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
• Work hours are subject to change, with overtime, nights, weekends and/or holiday work as needed. Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust odors and elevated noise levels.
• Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard, and soft-carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces, and elevated levels using ladders.
• While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods at a time, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to climb stairs and ladders as required.
• Must be able to load/unload materials, tools, and equipment.
• Involves walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching.
