Job summary

Pennsylvania College of Technology is seeking a Custodian/Floater to join the General Services team on a weekend schedule. You will help keep student living spaces and campus facilities clean, safe, and welcoming, supporting a vibrant campus community.

Responsibilities include cleaning living spaces, common areas, and assisting with campus grounds, with regular duties to maintain the daily experience for students, faculty, and visitors.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent (preferred).
• Valid driver’s license (in state) preferred.
• Experience as a custodian and familiarity with automated cleaning equipment (preferred).
• Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain student residences and campus facilities to a clean, safe, and welcoming standard.
• Prepare living spaces, clean common areas, and assist with campus grounds.
• Ensure buildings are properly secured when leaving and respond to cleaning requests as needed.

EDUCATION

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent. Preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Valid and in State Valid Driver's License. Preferred

Experience

• Experience as a custodian. Preferred
• Familiarity with automated cleaning equipment. Preferred

Abilities And Skills

• Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions. Required

• Dispose of trash.
• Clean common living space including appliances.
• Empty cigarette urns and clean as necessary.
• Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop areas.
• Vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas.
• Clean fountains, ashtrays, and blackboards.
• Dust and/or wash areas requiring same.
• Clean bathrooms to include all sinks, counters, toilets, showers, mirrors, and replenish supplies.
• Clean restrooms and replenish supplies.
• Wash windows and door glass.
• Clean laundry rooms to include washers and dryers, sinks, and counters.
• Clean Police guard areas.
• Clean apartments at the end of each semester or when vacated.
• Strip and refinish floors and maintain all types of floor surfaces.
• Sweep stairs and stairwells and wash same.
• Remove ice and snow from stairs, entrances, and walks.
• Wash walls, window ledges, woodwork, furnishings; remove graffiti.
• Replace light bulbs and tubes; clean light fixtures.
• Keep area stocked with cleaning supplies; submit supply and repair requisitions to Supervisor.
• Check exterior areas for trash, broken glass, etc., and clean up as necessary.
• Keep housekeeping equipment clean and perform minor repairs on same.
• Respond to calls requesting clean up as needed.
• When leaving buildings, responsible for seeing that buildings are properly secured.
• Perform minor repairs of housekeeping equipment.

Additional Responsibilities

• May direct activities of work study students.
• Set up areas for special events as requested.
• Function as an attendant at special College events.
• Exposure to dust and harsh chemicals in performing duties.
• Lifting of 65 lbs. maximum, without assistance, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs.
• May require travel between buildings during shift.
• May require climbing or working from ladders and scaffolding.

$15.98 per hour.
