Job summary

Wearebcs in Brooklyn is seeking a Custodian to maintain the interior and exterior of our Seth Low building, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming space for staff, residents, and visitors.

Responsibilities include daily cleaning of the facility and grounds, snow removal, light maintenance, stocking supplies, and assisting with deliveries. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, and lifting up to 50 pounds is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to interact with the client population.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Must regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must ascend/descend up to 8 flights of stairs.
• Must work with hazardous substances with proper PPE.
• Driver's license with a clean driving record is a plus.
• Must undergo pre-employment screenings such as Criminal Background Check.

• Any previous maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily cleaning of the facility and facility grounds, including snow and ice removal.
• Maintain the exterior of the building free from graffiti and other unsightly conditions.
• Perform routine maintenance inspections.
• Conduct routine inspections and repairs of A/C and heating units.
• Strip and wax floors.
• Clean and replace light bulbs and fixtures.
• Remove debris/leaves to unclog drains and prevent leaks.
• Clean all bathrooms and fixtures.
• Remove, recycle, garbage and trash.
• Keep inventory of distributed sanitary supplies and stock supplies.
• Inform Supervisor of needed sanitary and cleaning supplies.
• Repair equipment and furniture as needed.
• Assemble furniture and equipment.
• Assist with deliveries, pickups, and drop-offs.
• Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing switches, door handles, leaks).
• Report major damages and oversee repairs.
• Secure facilities after operating hours and set alarm.
• Perform other related duties as directed.

Work Location: Seth Low, 137 Belmont Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11212

Status/Hours: Full time - Hours - 8:00 am-4:00pm with ability to some evenings and weekends depending on program needs

Salary Range: $17.00 per hour - $17.00 per hour

Position Summary

The custodial worker is responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior of the building, ensuring a safe, clean and pleasant environment for all staff, residents and visitors.

• Perform routine maintenance inspections.
• Conduct routine inspections and perform seasonal cleaning and repairs of A/C and heating units.
• Strip and wax floors.
• Clean and replace light bulbs, clean light fixtures.
• Remove debris/leaves from the roof to unclog drains and prevent building leaks.
• Clean all bathrooms including fixtures, urinals, toilets, wash halls and tiles.
• Remove, Recycle, garbage and trash.
• Keep inventory of distributed sanitary supplies as needed.
• Unpack and stock supplies.
• Inform Supervisor of needed sanitary and cleaning supplies.
• Repair equipment and furniture as needed.
• Assemble furniture, equipment and other miscellaneous items.
• Assist with deliveries, pick-ups and drop-offs as needed.
• Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks etc.)
• Report major damages and oversee repairs
• Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows and setting up the alarm
• Perform other related duties as directed by a program/site director, facilities coordinator, Director of Facilities, or maintenance supervisor.

Qualifications/Skills

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Ability to interact with the client population.
