Job summary

Brooklyn Community Services is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to oversee maintenance and custodial staff across multiple program locations in Brooklyn. You will implement SOPs, oversee preventive maintenance, and ensure safety and comfort for staff and clients.

You will provide on-call coverage for overnight and weekends, coordinate with the Facility Coordinator, and drive light trucks for supply pickups as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 6-10 years in skilled trades (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC).
• 3+ years managing facilities and staff.
• Valid driver's license with clean record.
• Must pass background checks.

Responsibilities

• Lead maintenance and custodial teams across multiple Brooklyn sites.
• Oversee SOPs, preventive maintenance, repairs, and housekeeping.
• Maintain logs for HVAC, fire alarm, elevator, and preventive maintenance.
• Estimate labor/material costs, purchase supplies, manage inventory, and review vendor contracts.
• Move furniture/equipment and drive light trucks for supply pickups.

Position: Maintenance Supervisor

Reports to: Director of Facilities

Location: Must travel to multiple locations throughout Brooklyn required.

Schedule: Full-time (Requires on-call, emergency response)

Salary Range: $66,300- $66,300

Position Description

The Maintenance Supervisor works under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities. This position is primarily responsible for the oversight of maintenance and custodial staff across several program locations throughout the borough. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the implementation of standard operating procedures, building maintenance, preventative maintenance schedules, repairs, and housekeeping to ensure the safety and comfort of the staff and clients and to maintain the integrity of the program’s physical spaces. The Maintenance Supervisor provides on-call coverage for overnight and weekends. This position will work in cooperation with the Facility Coordinator, Program Directors and Division Directors.

Key Responsibilities

• Staff Leadership: Schedule, train, and conduct performance reviews for maintenance technicians and custodians.
• Operations & Repairs: Perform and oversee skilled trade work (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and equipment repair).
• Facility Inspections: Conduct comprehensive semiannual building inspections to identify hazards and required repairs.
• Compliance & Records: Maintain HVAC, fire alarm, elevator, and preventative maintenance logs and service records.
• Budget & Inventory: Estimate labor/material costs, purchase supplies, manage inventory, and assess vendor contracts.
• Logistics: Move furniture/equipment and drive light trucks for supply pickups.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent
• Trade Experience: 6-10 years in skilled trades (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC).
• Management Experience: 3+ years managing facilities and staff.
• Physical: Ability to climb stairs and lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
• Licensing: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Clearances: Must pass background checks.
