Job description

OPEN TO PERMANENT CUSTODIAN


The Bureau of Operations is responsible for Citywide management of the District Health facilities in all five boroughs which comprise over 300,000 square footages of property. Bureau of Operations provides infrastructure and general business services to the agency, to support effective and efficient delivery of public health services. The Bureau of Operations provides key, vital support services to the Department including but not limited to the Public Health Laboratory and the District Health Centers throughout the five boroughs.


Responsibilities include:
  1. Supervise the cleaning, operation, and maintenance of one or more medium or large-sized buildings and their immediate grounds, including lawns and shrubs.
  2. Perform work of moderate difficulty and responsible for the enforcement of safety requirements in such assigned areas; and or supervise custodial employees on an assigned shift in a large or extremely large building.
  3. In a medium sized building or in a large building provide, oversee the operation of a low pressure heating system.
  4. Supervise minor repairs.
  5. Coordinate and supervise the moving of furniture and equipment.
  6. Serve as Fire Safety Director and attend to FDNY citation for building violations.
  7. Train personnel in safe work methods and use of equipment and materials.
  8. Prepare work schedules; investigate and adjust complaints about service and personnel.
  9. Perform the duties of subordinates, as needed.
  10. May perform the duties of the supervisor, Facility Manager, in his/her temporary absence.
  11. Maintain cleanliness and maintenance of large public buildings. Inspect interior and exterior of assigned building daily, including boiler, elevators and related equipment.
  12. Order janitorial supplies.
  13. Perform other related work as needed and/or requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of full-time satisfactory experience in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings.
To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have three years of satisfactory experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" above.
To be assigned to Assignment Level III and IV candidates must have four years of satisfactory experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" above.
