Job description

Position: Custodian - A-Lead
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, Full-time 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: $23.64/hour per the Custodial Labor Agreement
Benefits: Medical, Dental, Life and Paid Time Off in accordance with the Custodial Summary of Benefits

Required Qualifications:
  1. Must possess or be able to obtain a 1st class boilers license during probation.
  2. Ability to get along with district employees, and be courteous and helpful with students and the general public.
  3. Knowledge of requirements of maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  4. Knowledge of modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning and preserving floors, blackboards, carpets, furniture, walls, and fixtures.
  5. Knowledge of cleaning equipment, tools, materials, and supplies used in custodial work.
  6. Ability to learn custodial procedures, methods, and schedules.
  7. Ability to maintain classrooms, offices, and other school facilities in a clean, safe, and secure condition.
  8. Ability to use common cleaning equipment and supplies safely and efficiently.
  9. Ability to move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events.
  10. Ability to observe and report safety hazards and need for maintenance and repair.
  11. Ability to perform minor maintenance and repair on furniture, equipment, and facilities.
  12. Ability to confer with site administrators and supervisors regarding custodial needs, schedules, and concerns.
  13. Knowledge of principles of administration, training, and supervision.
  14. Ability to assign and review the work of others.
  15. Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate personnel.
Physical Requirements:
Standing and walking 90% of the time. 50% of the time involves: twisting, bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing stairs. 25% of the time involves: crouching, pulling, pushing, climbing ladders, twisting while lifting, sweeping, extended reaches of 20 pounds overhead, and lifting 50-100 pounds with mechanical assistance.

Responsibilities:
  1. Do general cleaning functions such as vacuuming, scrubbing, waxing, buffing, and sweeping floors which may include mixing various cleaning and maintenance chemicals.
  2. Perform minor maintenance to keep schools and classrooms operational such as repairing plumbing, heating, ventilation, and electrical equipment not requiring an outside contractor.
  3. Secures building and tests and resets fire alarms.
  4. Sets up equipment for sporting events, concerts, and other meetings or special events.
  5. Checks boilers, gauges, and pumps to ensure proper orientation, adds oil to pumps, or turns off pumps as necessary. Refers operational problems to Supervisor of Maintenance.
  6. Opens or closes building as necessary.
  7. Inspects building, grounds, and equipment for safety.
  8. Coordinates and assigns tasks to regular custodial staff.
  9. Distributes supplies for kitchen, office, teachers, and departments.
  10. Perform minor repairs to chairs, desks, chair glides, and other school equipment.
  11. Conducts minor ground maintenance including mowing, landscaping, snow removal, painting, raking, or similar tasks.
  12. Supervises student workers in performance of general cleaning tasks.
  13. Other duties as assigned.
