Summary Of Opportunity

Follow guidelines established in the Custodial Training Manual and Custodial Policy and Procedure Manual by Facilities Management Division. Supervises or directs and works with the assigned housekeeping staff in cleaning and maintaining buildings and grounds to ensure safe, clean, and comfortable conditions for occupants.

Qualifications

Work usually requires a level of knowledge normally acquired by obtaining a High School Diploma or a G.E.D. Work usually requires one (1) to three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in the area of Public or School Building Housekeeping. Supervisory experience would be helpful.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Essential Functions

Supervises a small-sized staff of custodians engaging in cleaning and performing light maintenance work inside and outside the building.

Directs or performs the cleaning of walls, windows, floors, furniture, and other fixtures (for example, lights and commodes within the building); selects the appropriate cleaning materials and equipment for cleaning.

Directs or performs such maintenance tasks as changing light bulbs, cleaning filters, replacing or oiling worn belts, possibly cleaning boilers, placing boards over broken windows, or making emergency repairs of furniture or structural damage, or calling appropriate departments for repair.

Ensures building security, locking and unlocking doors for cleaning or special school events taking place after regular hours; checks for unauthorized persons in the building; calls security at opening or closing of the building; checks and locks windows.

Directs or performs maintenance on the grounds surrounding the buildings including tasks such as mowing, litter pickup, trimming bushes, and snow removal (with motorized snow removal equipment or shovel); selects equipment for use on such tasks, determines work quality.

Directs or performs minor painting, shampooing carpets, cleaning out incinerators, or carrying trash to dumpsters. Directs or performs the moving of furniture such as desks, tables, and chairs.

Orders and receives cleaning supplies, cleaning equipment, and grounds equipment from the divisions by referencing the supplies list.

Inspects buildings and grounds and responds to comments from Principal to determine needs and/or tasks. May unload and stock paper and cleaning supplies for the school.

Responds to emergency calls, including making emergency repairs during unscheduled hours.

Performs other related duties as assigned by Principal.

The physical requirements include regular use of hands, standing, walking, occasional sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Must occasionally lift/move up to 10 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception, and ability to focus.
