Job summary

Davenport Community Schools is seeking a Custodian for the Blue Grass Elementary and Buffalo Elementary campuses. The role covers an 8-hour day shift (3:00 pm – 11:30 pm) during winter, spring, and summer breaks.

External applicants are welcome if no internal bidder is found; entry level rate is $18.17/hr with internal seniority guidelines. Responsibilities include cleaning, sanitizing, basic maintenance, snow removal, and assisting with supply deliveries.

Qualifications

• Must have high school degree or GED.
• 1 year custodial experience.
• Thorough knowledge of all cleaning procedures, chemicals & equipment.
• Ability to learn how to operate a computer, use email, open attachments and complete electronic work orders.

Responsibilities

• Utility tasks and general cleaning duties.
• Clean/sanitize desks, tables, door handles, restrooms fixtures.
• Clean glass surfaces and dust horizontal areas.
• Wet mop floors and spot clean carpets/hard floors.
• Assist with deep cleaning during breaks (stripping, scrubbing, recoating).
• Handle trash removal and snow removal.
• Perform minor grounds keeping and lawn mowing.
• Assist with delivery of supplies and proper equipment maintenance.
• Report maintenance issues to Head/Lead custodians.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Clean restrooms.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Utility
• Clean/sanitize desk/table tops, door handles, restroom fixtures
• Cleans glass
• Dusts horizontal surfaces, clocks, overhead screens, and blinds
• Wet mopping of floors, spot cleaning of carpets and hard flooring
• Assists with deep cleaning during break periods stripping, scrub & recoat, carpet extraction, cleaning restrooms, glass, and furniture
• Trash removal
• Removes snow
• Minor grounds keeping
• Lawn mowing
• Assists with delivery of supplies
• Properly maintains equipment
• Reports maintenance issues to Head and Lead custodians
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Cleans Restrooms

Physical Requirements of Position

• Have physical ability to lift and carry 56 lbs.
• Have the physical ability to climb an eight-foot ladder and perform custodial tasks
• In addition to these specific qualifications this person must meet all the general qualifications as listed in the "lead custodian" job description of the Davenport Community School District as posted on the district web site.
