Job summary

The College of Lake County is seeking a Custodian for the 2nd shift at the Lakeshore campus to maintain cleanliness and sanitation across campus facilities.

Responsibilities include cleaning interiors and exteriors, assisting with room setups, and performing routine maintenance with cleaning equipment. This is a full-time role with a 40-hour work week and a schedule from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Monday through Saturday (as listed).

Qualifications

  • The candidate should be bilingual (Spanish and English) and dependable.
  • Ability to lead staff and follow instructions as required.
  • Knowledge of custodial functions and procedures is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Clean interior and exterior of buildings; sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, wash windows.
  • Maintain cleanliness of entrances, washrooms, offices, lounges, and corridors.
  • Assist in snow removal and room/setup activities as needed.
  • Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor burnishers, and extraction machines.
  • Follow policies and contribute to a safe, inclusive work environment.

Position Title: Custodian, 2nd Shift (Off-Shift)
Job Summary

The Custodian, under the supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, maintains cleanliness and sanitation of the college campuses.

Job Description
  • Cleans interior and exterior of all buildings, which includes sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, buffing, dusting, washing windows, louvers and light diffusers.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of entrance areas, washrooms, administrative offices, staff/faculty lounges, lunchrooms, corridors and cleans waste receptacles.
  • Assists in snow removal as needed, front entrance and walks.
  • Assists in room and activities set‑ups, furniture moves, and stage set‑ups.
  • Uses equipment to perform essential functions of the job, including vacuum cleaner, basic hand tools, walk‑behind hard floor scrubber, walk‑behind hard floor burnisher, and carpet water extraction machines.
  • Demonstrates solid commitment to the CLC values of integrity, inclusion, unity, purpose, compassion and excellence in student success.
  • Follow all institution and regulatory policies, procedures and standards.
  • Utilize self‑appraisal to determine progress in meeting performance management system objectives and career goals.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
Required Qualification(s)
  • A high school diploma, or equivalent required.
  • Continuously walking or standing, frequent bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting and occasionally sitting.
  • Ability to push, carry, lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis, and over 50 lbs. on an occasional basis with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Pay Rate: $17.37/hr + $0.50 shift differential
