Job summary

Louisiana State University is seeking a Custodian 2 for the Day Shift to maintain and clean the LSU Student Union facility. The role involves cleaning lobbies, restrooms, and common areas, plus event set-ups and floor care using industrial equipment.

Requires at least six months of custodial or related experience. The position operates Thursday to Sunday with pre-employment checks and essential status during emergencies.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Cleans lobbies, bathrooms, hallways, meeting rooms, billiards area, and administrative area of the union by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, and polishing.
• Mixes or blends cleaning solutions to proper concentrations as necessary.
• 30% Responsible for set-ups and breakdowns associated with daily events in meeting rooms, lobbies, ballrooms, and exterior grounds.
• 25% Cleans, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using industrial-sized mops and commercial-type floor machines.
• 20% Fills commercial floor machines with cleaning solutions of proper concentration, empties unused solution into the appropriate container.
• 20% Cleans floor machines and checks and recharges batteries.
• Washes, rinses, and dries industrial-size wet mops, dust mops, and commercial floor pads.
• Operates wet dry vacuuming carpet extraction equipment and other commercial equipment as required for cleaning and shampooing carpets.
• 10% Empties (exterior and interior) trash and recycling containers and transports waste material to outdoor refuse containers or recycling containers as needed.
• 10% Cleans, decontaminates, and deodorizes waste containers using proper materials according to label directions.
• 5% Performs other duties as may be assigned by Building Services supervisors, Managers, or other administrative personnel within the department.

Summary

Minimum Qualifications

• No Test Score Required Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, grounds keeping, or food service work.

Salary

• Minimum/SER: $12.00/hr.
• 1st Quartile: $12.84/hr.
• Midpoint: $14.98/hr.
• 3rd Quartile: $17.12/hr.
• Maximum: $19.26/hr.
• Hourly rate may be commensurate with candidate's experience in alignment with Chapter 6 rules.

Special/Physical requirements

This position works Thursday to Sunday. A satisfactory pre-employment background check and physical are required for hire. In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure. This person must be capable of moving about in a 305,000-square-foot building multiple times daily to clean and prepare ballrooms, meeting/conference rooms, lobbies, office space, and exterior sidewalks, patios, and balconies. The person must also be able to ascend and descend the stairs of a 4-story building multiple times daily and stand for extended periods during cleaning processes. They must be capable of stooping, kneeling, and crouching to pick up litter, retrieve equipment, and clean restrooms, offices, lobbies, and maintain floors. This person should be capable of moving furniture that weighs 20-40 lbs. or more and transporting tables and chairs weighing 60-80 lbs. to set up for events throughout the building. Will use arms/hands to operate floor/power equipment to prepare and maintain floors. The person will work with and be exposed to common cleaning products.
