Job summary

Franklin County Schools in Winchester, TN seeks a full-time maintenance worker to keep school buildings and grounds neat, handle basic repairs, shovel and plow sidewalks, and ensure safe access for students. Responsibilities include cooling/heating regulation, lawn care, window cleaning, and furniture movement, while door security is maintained as needed.

Qualifications

  • Criminal history background checks required for applicants for teaching positions and other roles close to students.
  • Fingerprinting of applicants for positions with proximity to children.
  • Pre-employment drug screen is required before employment.
  • Checks with state and federal registries may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Keep all buildings and premises neat and clean at all times, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas.
  • Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning to provide season-appropriate temperatures and conserve resources.
  • Perform grounds-keeping tasks such as grass cutting and tree trimming.
  • Unlock doors before students arrive and secure doors after departures.
  • Shovel, plow, and maintain steps, walks, driveways, and parking areas as needed.
  • Perform minor building repairs within capability and report major repairs promptly.
  • Keep floors clean and in good condition.
  • Move furniture within buildings as required.
  • Keep grounds free from rubbish and maintain cleanliness.
  • Wash windows on both sides where accessible.
  • Clean restrooms, classrooms, offices, halls, and other areas.
  • Conduct ongoing maintenance, upkeep, and repair work.
  • Inventory supplies, equipment, and fuel; requisition replacements as needed.
  • Comply with local laws and procedures for trash, rubbish, and waste disposal.
  • Know and follow all safety rules and procedures related to the job.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or Director of Schools.

Job description

  • 1. Keep all buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times;
  • 2. Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity;
  • 3. Perform such grounds-keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, etc.;
  • 4. Unlock doors prior to student arrivals and secure doors after student departures;
  • 5. Shovel, plow, and maintain steps, walks, driveways, and parking areas as needed;
  • 6. Perform such minor building repairs as he/she is capable of;
  • 7. Report major repairs that are needed promptly;
  • 8. Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition;
  • 9. Move furniture within buildings as required;
  • 10. Keep the grounds free from rubbish;
  • 11. Wash all windows on both the inside and outside;
  • 12. Clean restrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, and other areas of the building;
  • 13. Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair;
  • 14. Keep and inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisition needed replacements;
  • 15. Compile with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste;
  • 16. Know and follow all safety rules and proper procedures associated with the responsibilities of the job; and
  • 17. Perform other work-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or Director of Schools.

To ensure the safety and welfare of students and staff, the district shall require criminal history background checks and fingerprinting of applicants for teaching positions and any other positions that require proximity to children.
Additionally, satisfactory results from a required pre-employment drug screen as well as checks with various state/federal registries are required before an applicant is actually employed by Franklin County Schools.
