Job summary

VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL in West Des Moines, Iowa is seeking a Custodian to maintain clean and safe facilities. The role requires 8 hours per day, immediate start, and adherence to district policies.

You will perform cleaning tasks, assist with event setup and minor maintenance, while ensuring security of storage areas and tools. The position offers consistent attendance, participation in safety training, and opportunities to support school operations across the campus.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Ensure school facilities are clean and well maintained.
• Communicate changes or concerns to Head Custodian or Maintenance/Custodial Manager.
• Monitor and secure custodial storage areas; keep doors/windows shut when appropriate.
• Return tools and supplies to secure storage at end of shift.
• Assist in projects such as refinishing floors and cleaning carpet.
• Set up/tear down rooms for meetings, classes or events; move furniture/equipment as needed.
• Complete snow removal and lawn care as required.
• Report safety hazards promptly; participate in safety training.

• Assist in assigned project work, including refinishing floors and cleaning carpet.
• Respond to requests, which may include setting up/tearing down rooms for meetings or class functions, or athletic events moving furniture/equipment and storing deliveries.

• Complete snow removal and lawn care duties as required.
