Job Description

Title: Custodian (Day, Evening and Weekend)

Qualifications

• Effective communication and problem-solving skills

• Regular and predictable attendance
• Qualified to be employed as a Custodian per Civil Service and NYS Education Department guidelines
• Ability to supervise cleaning staff
• Physical ability to bend, kneel, sit, stand for extended periods
• Ability to lift and maneuver heavy objects

Responsibilities

• Attend meetings as needed
• Follow directives (written, oral, electronic)
• Perform general custodial duties: cleaning, dusting, mopping, operating machinery, handling chemicals
• Maintain inventory for tools, equipment, supplies
• Develop work and cleaning schedules
• Supervise and evaluate cleaning staff
• Report maintenance issues
• Inspect doorways and windows
• Remove snow and ice
• Handle garbage and waste
• Coordinate room setups and event preparations
• Ensure building security
• Respond to staff service requests
• Coordinate deliveries and repairs
• Interact professionally with staff, students, visitors
