Job summary

The Salvation Army Tucson is seeking a dedicated custodian to keep offices, classrooms, and common areas clean and safe. This full-time, on-site role requires independent work, familiarity with MSDS and cleaning equipment, and a commitment to maintaining high hygiene standards.

You will handle routine cleaning tasks, assist with shelter and dining room upkeep, and support event setups while ensuring a clean, welcoming environment for staff and clients.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year custodian experience helpful.
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets.
• Able to read and follow labels and directions.
• Working knowledge of cleaning equipment.
• Ability to interact professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Successful background clearance.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain offices, classrooms, conference rooms, common areas, breakrooms, restrooms, stairwells, elevators, and building entrances.
• Assist with shelter cleaning as needed, dining room cleanup, ice machine, and food service tables.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and disinfect floors, furniture, fixtures, glass, drinking fountains, and high-touch surfaces.
• Empty trash and recycling; restock restroom and breakroom supplies as needed.
• Maintain exterior grounds by removing litter and debris, emptying ash urns and pet waste stations.
• Assist with event and program setup and breakdown, client apartment turnover cleaning, and other facility cleaning projects.
• Power wash sidewalks, patios, and other exterior surfaces as assigned.
• Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and supply needs to the supervisor.
• Attend staff meetings and perform other custodial duties as assigned.

STATUS: FT/40 Hours/Week

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
