Job summary

The Salvation Army Peoria Citadel Corps Community Center is seeking a Custodian to maintain the center's property and equipment, ensuring cleanliness and preventative maintenance are handled promptly. The role reports to Corps Officers and offers an hourly pay range with regular, varied hours.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of related experience, with background checks and a valid driver’s license required. Local travel may be involved.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus two years of related experience preferred.
  • Pass pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid driver's license.
  • Must be articulate in presenting The Salvation Army mission to others.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain corps property, equipment, fixtures, and grounds.
  • Keep facilities clean, safe, and orderly (including garage area).
  • Operate equipment and power equipment safely and properly.
  • Use cleaning chemicals per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks.
  • Communicate major repair needs with the corps officer.
  • Complete work orders in a timely manner.
  • Daily: general cleaning of offices and bathrooms; restock supplies.

Position Title: Custodian
Job Summary

Maintain property and equipment in a satisfactory manner. Ensuring cleanliness and preventative maintenance is managed appropriately and timely.

Reports To: Corps Officer(s)
Pay Grade: 402
Salary Range: $16.30 - $19.56 Hourly
Qualifications

High School Degree or equivalent along with two years of related experiences preferred. Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Candidates must have a passion for fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army and must be articulate in presenting the same to others.

Candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid driver's license.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Maintain the corps property, equipment, fixtures, and grounds.
  • Keep facilities clean, safe, and orderly (including garage area).
  • Operate equipment and power equipment safely and properly.
  • Use chemicals (including cleaning supplies, lawn treatments) according to manufacturer
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks.
  • Communicate all major repair issues/needs with the corps officer.
  • Complete all work orders in a timely manner.
  • Daily:
  • perform a general cleaning of all offices (including waste receptacles).
  • clean, disinfect, and restock all facility bathrooms.
  • ensure the vacuuming of rugs and carpets throughout the facility.
  • ensure setup of tables, chairs, and equipment needed in facility program rooms.
  • ensure cleaning of gym floor after scheduled programs.
  • breakdown cardboard and dispose of properly.
  • sweep, scrub, and mop floors.
  • dispose of all trash to outside dumpster.
  • Regularly:
  • check inside and outside the building (picking up trash and debris).
  • use floor scrubber to clean gym floor.
  • ensure chapel pews are dusted and/or polished.
  • ensure that windows, walls, tables, chairs are cleaned.
  • As Needed:
  • Replace/repair burned out lighting throughout facility.
  • Drive errands, in TSA vehicle.
  • Order needed supplies within budget guidelines, with prior approval.
  • Maintain the janitor closet and storage areas, keeping them neat and organized.
  • Assist with Christmas Campaign by maintaining the kettle equipment, including stands, signs, kettles, bells, laundering aprons in season.
  • Provide general support to annual Christmas activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Local travel will be required.

Physical Demands/ Work Environment

This Position is required to do moderate to heavy physical work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to lift and bend, communicate, move, occasionally required to position self to stoop, kneel or crouch, frequently required to reach with and use arms and hands as required in using tools and equipment, climbing ladders and work in varying temperature environments. Specific vision abilities by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to focus. The work environment for this position includes an office, garage, and outdoor environment. Individual must be able to continuously lift up to twenty-five pounds, frequently up to thirty-five pounds and occasionally up to fifty pounds.
