Job summary

York County Department of Public Works is seeking a full-time Custodian to provide custodial maintenance of County facilities and maintain a clean, safe environment for staff and visitors.

The position offers a 40-hour work week with shifts from 5:00am-2:00pm or 8:00am-5:00pm, and potential to adjust hours. Minimum education includes a High School Diploma or GED and related custodial experience is preferred; CJIS, Blood Borne Pathogens, and PREA certifications are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two years custodial, maintenance or related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides general custodial maintenance in assigned County facilities.
• Maintains accurate and complete records of work performed.
• Performs all work in compliance with County policies, procedures and standards.
• Receives and responds to inquiries, and complaints from County staff and the public.
• Orders and stocks cleaning supplies.
• Coordinates the locking and unlocking of doors, and sets or disarms security systems.
• Ensures walkways and parking areas are swept.
• Maintains cleanliness, and accurate supplies in restrooms.
• Collects and distributes inter-office mail and deliver outgoing mail to external mail boxes.
• Removes and replaces liners in trash receptacles as needed.
• Dusts and cleans surfaces including doors, walls, showers, refrigerators, microwaves and other appliances, and telephones.
• Moves furniture as required for cleaning and preparing for events and meetings.
• Performs related work as assigned.

The Department of Public Works is hiring a full-time (40hours weekly), non-exempt Custodian to join our team. The purpose of this position is to provide custodial maintenance of County facilities to ensure a clean and safe environment for staff and visitors.

Projected Salary Range/Grade 106:

$16.14 - $19.37, salary is determined based on experience and education.

Work Schedule:

Must be able to work the hours of 5:00am-2:00pm and or 8:00am-5:00pm. This position will be hired for 8:00am-5:00pm with the potential to move to 5:00am-2:00pm at a later date.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two (2) years of custodial, maintenance or related experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

• Certification in CJIS (Criminal Justice Information System Certificate).
• Blood Borne Pathogens
• PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) course.

Physical Demands:

• Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
