Job summary

Coweta County School District is seeking a Custodian for Poplar Road Elementary School to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient environment for students and staff. This is an 8-hour daily position located at Poplar Road Elementary School.

The role requires a minimum high school diploma or GED, the ability to perform physical custodial tasks, and reliable attendance. You will work under the lead custodian or principal and follow established safety and sanitation practices.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform custodial and light maintenance duties including lifting.
• Ability to work with school staff and follow directions from lead custodian or principal.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, clean, and well-maintained school environment for students and staff.
• Perform sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, and restroom cleaning as part of daily duties.
• Report damage or maintenance needs to the principal or lead custodian and comply with directives.
• Maintain punctual attendance and comply with school policies and procedures.

Job Description

To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient environment in which to work and learn. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat, clean, and safe at all times. Performs essential building care such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, dewaxing, and waxing floors; cleaning blinds, window glass, light fixtures, walls, carpet, restrooms, and other spaces within a school facility. Sweeps classrooms and empties waste containers daily. Cleans corridors after school each day and during the day when their condition requires it. Scrubs and disinfects restrooms' floors daily. Cleans all sanitary fixtures daily. Checks equipment and facility daily and reports any damage immediately to the principal. Works on the school premises during scheduled hours and remains on the school premises during periods when the principal has authorized use of the building for special purposes. Moves furniture and equipment within buildings as required for various activities, as directed by the lead custodian or principal. Complies with local laws, ordinances, and regulations for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste. Complies with any reasonable oral or written directive given by the lead custodian, principal, or other administrator. Excellent attendance and punctuality are required. Other duties as assigned by Lead and/or administrators.

Required Education, Certification, Or Training

Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Required Skills

Ability to establish and maintain efficient working relations with other employees and school system personnel; ability to perform the physical requirements of the custodial and light maintenance duties, including lifting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing a ladder; ability to learn repetitive tasks and perform them under supervision; working knowledge of methods and materials essential to good housekeeping and sanitation practices.
