Job summary

Coweta Public Schools seeks a Building Custodian for Sloat Junior High to maintain clean, safe learning environments. The role requires standing for long periods, frequent lifting and operating cleaning equipment, with duties including sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and window/waxing tasks.

The position reports to the Building Principal and runs on an 8-hour day across an 11-month/230-day contract, with duties that support daily school operations and facility upkeep.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent experience.
• Must be able to stand/walk for 8 hours.
• Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and occasional squatting/crouching.
• Must be able to kneel, climb and reach above the shoulders.
• Carrying/lifting up to 24 pounds, up to 75 pounds occasionally.
• Move furniture or carry boxes up to 100 pounds.
• Operates sweeper, vacuum and mop with dexterity.
• Exposure to cleaning supplies, gas, fumes and dust.

Responsibilities

• Vacuums, dusts, sweep and mop classrooms and halls daily.
• Cleans bathrooms daily; maintains paper and supplies.
• Empties and relines trash cans daily.
• Picks up trash on building premises.
• Washes windows and blinds.
• Waxes floors and cleans carpets as necessary.
• Secures building at end of shift.
• Checks heating/air conditioning systems as necessary.
• Sets thermostats during shift.
• Performs any other duties assigned by supervisor or Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to kneel, climb and reach above the shoulders. Job requires frequent carrying/lifting up to 24 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds. Must be able to move furniture or machines or carry boxes of books up to 100 pounds. Must poses manual dexterity sufficient to operate a sweeper, vacuum and mop. Job requires exposure to toxic gas, fumes and dust from cleaning supplies, and sweeping. Superintendent may approve appropriate and acceptable alternatives to the listed qualifications.
