Job description

This is a full-time non-exempt position reporting to the Parks Maintenance Supervisor. Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial, janitorial, parks and recreation facility, basic maintenance, and construction functions for the Village of Ruidoso. Non-exempt FLSA. This position performs custodial, janitorial, and basic building maintenance duties in the care and cleaning of Village buildings and park facilities. The work involves multiple tasks, working to deadlines, and complying with flexible work schedules as established by the supervisor or management. The schedule is varied, 40 hours per week, and may include weekends, holidays, extended hours, and being called in as needed.

Work is performed in an internal environment with exposure to cleaning chemicals and dust. Noise and vibrations from equipment are frequent. Protective clothing is provided and required. The physical demands are moderate to heavy, including bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and pushing/pulling up to 80 pounds frequently. Assist with department activities, programs, and events.

Essential Job Functions

• Perform custodial and janitorial duties, including trash removal, dusting, cleaning offices, kitchens, restrooms, and maintaining neatness and sanitation.
• Operate cleaning machinery such as scrubbing machines, shampooers, and buffers; use cleaning chemicals and protective equipment.
• Maintain grounds and facilities, including minor repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Follow safety practices, attend safety meetings and trainings.
• Assist with park and public grounds maintenance, including cleaning during special events.
• Maintain equipment and vehicles; use hand tools for janitorial and maintenance tasks.
• Support department activities, including moving furniture and preventative maintenance.

Other Responsibilities

• Accurately complete timesheets and report hours worked.
• Perform snow removal, weed-eating, mowing as needed.
• Report injuries, ensure policy compliance, and report suspected fraud or abuse.
• Assist with inventory management.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Maintain physical stamina to perform duties, including prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and driving.
• Physical requirements include bending, lifting, carrying, and reaching, with occasional lifting up to 80 pounds.
• Work environment includes exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, and outdoor weather conditions.
• Flexible work schedules including long hours, weekends, holidays, and night shifts may be required.

Travel Requirements

Limited travel for meetings, training, and occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, with at least six months of experience in janitorial, grounds, or maintenance work. Building maintenance experience is preferred. Must pass drug tests, background checks, and hold a valid NM driver’s license.
