Job summary

Methode Electronics, Inc. is seeking a Facilities Custodian to keep the plant, offices, and grounds clean and safe. The role includes custodial tasks, light maintenance, and material-handling across production and office areas.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior custodial or facilities maintenance or general labor experience preferred.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Forklift operation certification required or obtainable within period of hire.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks across multiple areas.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and clean floors and surfaces; wash windows throughout the facility.
  • Clean restrooms, production and office areas; cover other areas as needed.
  • Empty trash and restock supplies throughout the building.
  • Maintain lunchroom before/after breaks and shifts.
  • Change floor mops, mop heads, and collect rags for pick-up; wax/refinish floors as scheduled.
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment for loading and removal.
  • Report repairs and perform minor repairs to fixtures and equipment.
  • Assist with snow removal and entryway salting; respond to emergencies.

Position Summary:

Maintains a clean, safe, and well-functioning facility by performing custodial, light maintenance, and material-handling duties across production, office, and grounds areas.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and polish floors and surfaces; clean and wash windows throughout the facility
  • Clean restrooms, production areas, and office areas, including covering other areas as needed
  • Empty trash receptacles and restock supplies throughout the building
  • Maintain the lunchroom before and after breaks and shifts
  • Change floor mops and mop heads across departments and collect rags for pick-up
  • Wax and refinish production floors as scheduled
  • Pick up paper, debris, and litter from grounds and building exteriors
  • Change light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and internal HVAC/AC filters; clean AC vents
  • Report needed repairs and perform minor repairs to building fixtures and equipment
  • Conduct monthly inspection and upkeep of emergency lighting and fire extinguishers
  • Change water filters on water fountains and perform touch-up painting as needed
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to prepare, weigh, and load scrap and materials for removal
  • Empty used 55-gallon drums of liquids into holding tanks
  • Remove damaged skids and excess crate wood, placing them into roll-off containers
  • Set up tables and chairs for company events
  • Assist contractors (e.g., pest control) with facility walk-throughs
  • Assist with snow removal and salting of entryways and other emergency situations, such as replacing emergency door alarm exit batteries
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Prior custodial, facilities maintenance, or general labor experience preferred
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, and scheduled instructions
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift and other material handling equipment; forklift certification required or must be obtained within a specified period of hire
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to perform minor repairs and routine facility maintenance
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks across multiple areas of the facility
  • Availability to respond to occasional facility emergencies outside of routine duties
Work Environment:

The employee may be exposed to varying outdoor temperatures during snow removal and grounds work, as well as cleaning chemicals and equipment noise. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally move heavier loads with the assistance of a forklift or other material handling equipment. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching (including overhead reaching) are required, along with occasional climbing (ladders/step stools) to service lighting, ceiling tiles, and HVAC vents. The role also involves repetitive hand motion and exposure to outdoor conditions during snow removal and grounds duties.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
