Job summary

YMCA of Reading & Berks County in Reading, PA is seeking a dependable Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for members, guests and staff. You will clean assigned areas, sanitize surfaces, and support facility operations according to the daily schedule.

Qualifications

• At least six months of custodial, cleaning, maintenance, or related experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, equipment, chemicals, and safe handling practices is preferred.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions, procedures, safety information, and equipment manuals.
• Ability to recognize and report maintenance and repair needs.
• Ability to work independently, manage assigned responsibilities, and maintain a consistent cleaning schedule.
• Dependable attendance and the ability to complete assigned work with limited supervision.
• Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with YMCA members, guests, and employees.

Responsibilities

• Complete assigned cleaning duties according to the established daily schedule.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize surfaces, remove trash, and collect recycling.
• Clean windows, restrooms, common areas, program spaces, and other assigned areas.
• Replenish soap, paper products, and other facility supplies.
• Operate motorized and non-motorized cleaning and maintenance equipment safely.
• Maintain custodial equipment and assigned work areas in good condition.
• Identify, document, and report needed repairs, unsafe conditions, or facility concerns.
• Complete minor repairs or maintenance tasks as directed.
• Help ensure the building and property remain secure during the assigned shift.
• Report incidents, hazards, damage, or security concerns promptly to a supervisor.
• Assist with furniture and room setup for meetings, programs, and special events.
• Perform seasonal duties, which may include snow removal, groundskeeping, lawn care, painting, window washing, and pool-area cleaning.
• Follow all YMCA safety procedures and manufacturer instructions when handling cleaning products, chemicals, and equipment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
