Job summary

The Young Men's Christian Association of Rye NY is seeking a diligent custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming facility during assigned shifts. Responsibilities include cleaning, equipment operation, and basic maintenance as directed by the Facilities Director, plus preparing spaces for events and programs.

You will report maintenance needs through the Facility Dude system, ensure security during shifts, and assist staff as needed to keep the YMCA running smoothly and safely.

Qualifications

• Six months or more of related experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
• Ability to report and record maintenance requests through Facility Dude.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
• Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
• Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintain motorized and non-motorized equipment.
• Records and reports all needed repair to facilities director through Facility Dude work order system.

• Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies as needed.
• Setup rooms for special events and program events.
• Assist fellow staff members and team members when needed or requested.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The custodian is responsible for keeping assigned areas clean, safe and sanitized and other duties as assigned by the Facilities Director. The custodian should strive to maintain a clean, safe and attractive facility during their assigned shift. The custodian should perform all tasks requested by the Facilities Director or through Facility Dude in a timely manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensure the Y is attractive, safe and clean by completing all assigned duties and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment. Duties will include but not limited to wet and dry mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling storage and removal, window washing, stripping and waxing of floors, carpet cleaning, hard floor scrubbing, light painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
2. Operates and maintain motorized and non-motorized equipment.
3. Records and reports all needed repair to facilities director through Facility Dude work order system.
4. Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to Facilities Director.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
2. Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet.
3. Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
4. Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed.
5. Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
6. Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; shoveling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
