Job summary

The YMCA of Reading & Berks County is seeking a dependable Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for members, guests, and staff at the Reading, PA facility.

Responsibilities include cleaning according to daily schedule, operating cleaning equipment, replenishing supplies, reporting repairs, and assisting with event setup. Six months of custodial experience is preferred; ability to work independently and with a team is essential.

Qualifications

• Six months custodial or related experience preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and safe handling practices preferred.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions, procedures, safety information, and equipment manuals.
• Ability to recognize and report maintenance and repair needs.
• Ability to work independently and maintain a consistent cleaning schedule.
• Dependable attendance and ability to complete assigned work with limited supervision.
• Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with YMCA members, guests, and employees.

Responsibilities

• Complete assigned cleaning duties according to the established daily schedule.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize surfaces, remove trash, and collect recycling.
• Clean windows, restrooms, common areas, program spaces, and other assigned areas.
• Replenish soap, paper products, and other facility supplies.
• Operate cleaning equipment safely and maintain custodial gear.
• Identify, document, and report needed repairs or safety concerns.
• Assist with furniture and room setup for meetings, programs, and events.
• Perform seasonal duties such as snow removal, groundskeeping, painting, and pool-area cleaning.
