Job summary

Boys Town in Omaha, NE is seeking a dependable custodian to perform general cleaning duties and monitor maintenance conditions. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, 3:30 p.m. to Midnight, with opportunities to supervise student workers and contribute to a safe, orderly environment.

The role requires knowledge of cleaning products, ability to operate cleaning machines, and the ability to work independently. High school or equivalent preferred; prior custodial experience is a plus.

  • Close buildings at the end of the day to ensure security.
  • Wash windows; dispose of waste and litter; remove marks from walls.
  • Perform routine maintenance and report conditions to supervisor promptly.
  • Supervise and train student workers as needed.

SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday 3:30p-Midnight.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Performs general cleaning duties and monitors maintenance conditions.

  • Sweeps, mops, strips, seals, finishes, and buffs floors; vacuums, pre-spots, and cleans carpets and upholstered surfaces.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and showers.
  • Maintains an uncluttered environment; identifies and reports possible safety hazards.
  • Closes buildings at the end of the day to ensure security.
  • Washes windows; disposes of waste and litter; removes marks from walls.
  • Performs routine maintenance, including replaces light bulbs, etc., and reports maintenance conditions to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Supervises and trains student workers as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to communicate in an articulate manner.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of cleaning products and appropriate usage.
  • Ability to run necessary cleaning machines and tools.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous custodial experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Position requires constant physical activity often exerting 30 to 50 pounds of force, walking, scrubbing, bending, reaching, and pushing machinery.
  • Subject to inside environmental conditions with some activities occurring outside including occasional snow removal or trash pick-up. Occasionally subject to sufficient noise causing the worker to shout in order to be heard. Exposure to chemicals in cleaning solutions.
