The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is seeking a Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment within the Office of Facilities & Operations. The role requires routine cleaning, proper chemical handling, and operating cleaning equipment in a school district setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Basic math skills are required.
• Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures is required.
• Ability to stand, walk, and bend for long periods.

• Experience with cleaning equipment (scrubbers, vacuums, buffers).
• Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals is required.
• Knowledge of safety rules for occupational hazards is required.
• Strong communication skills are required.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and work at heights.

Responsibilities

• Keeps building and property in clean and orderly condition.
• Performs routine maintenance activities.

• Shampoos or steam-cleans carpets and rugs.
• Manages inventory of cleaning supplies.
• Drives vehicles needed for cleaning tasks.
• Notifies managers of repairs or additions to building systems.

Job description

A vacancy exists for a Custodian to work within the Office of Facilities & Operations at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment within the facility. This role includes routine cleaning, maintenance, and sanitization of offices, restrooms, and common areas. The Custodian also monitors building conditions, reports maintenance needs, and ensures that cleaning supplies are stocked. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and adherence to safety procedures when handling cleaning equipment and chemicals.

• Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions.
• Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Cleans and polishes fixtures and furniture.
• Shampoos or steam-cleans carpets and rugs.
• Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures.
• Manages inventory of cleaning supplies.
• Drives vehicles required to perform or travel to cleaning work, including industrial trucks, vans, or industrial vacuum cleaners.
• Notifies managers regarding the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems.

Location

The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located at 2 W. Lafayette St. Norristown, PA 19401.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 7 hours/day, 12 months (260 - 262 days/year)

Shift: 10:00am - 6:00pm

Salary

$21.04/hour - $24.75/hour (F4)
