Summary
Crystal Lake School District 47 currently has an opening for a custodian. The Custodian provides custodial services at assigned site(s); ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations and assisting in preparing facilities for activities and events.
Essential Functions
- Cleans assigned school facilities (e.g., classrooms, offices, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, corridors, carpets, windows, walls, stage, locker rooms, graffiti removal, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
- Prepares site for daily operations (e.g., open doors, gates, remove snow from walkways) to ensure facilities are operational and safe for occupancy.
- Arranges furnishings and equipment for meetings, classroom activities, and events.
- Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g., cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops) to ensure availability of necessary items.
- Distributes supplies and equipment (e.g., soap, towels, toilet paper, furniture) to appropriate parties.
- Performs minor maintenance on custodial equipment and fixtures (e.g., vacuum belts, faucets, toilets, light fixtures) for proper functioning.
- Performs summer maintenance (e.g., floor stripping/waxing, furniture moving, painting) to facilitate summer projects.
- Attends meetings, training, and workshops to stay informed on job functions.
- Responds to safety or operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, vandalism, alarms) to take appropriate action or notify personnel.
- Secures facilities and grounds (e.g., doors, gates, alarms, lights) to minimize property damage and liability.
- Supports district maintenance staff in site activities/projects.

- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient work unit functioning.
Skills
- Ability to perform multiple non-technical tasks and upgrade skills as needed.
- Operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools.
- Adherence to safety practices (e.g., chemical use, PPE).
Knowledge

Work Environment
