Job summary

Our Lady of Mercy Parish & School (East Greenwich) is seeking a part-time custodian to begin immediately. The ideal candidate will bring custodial experience, basic maintenance skills, and a commitment to Catholic education while supporting the school’s mission.

You will work with a team to keep classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, gym, and common areas clean and safe, perform routine upkeep, and assist with events. Evening and weekend availability may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma preferred.
• Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
• At least two years of relevant experience preferred.
• Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and basic maintenance tools.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, hallways, offices, restrooms, cafeteria, gymnasium, and other school facilities.
• Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning floors and surfaces.
• Emptying trash and recycling containers and disposing of waste appropriately.
• Cleaning and restocking restroom supplies.
• Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs as needed.
• Monitoring school building for safety, maintenance, and security concerns and reporting problems promptly.
• Assisting with setting up and taking down furniture and equipment for school activities, meetings, and special events.
• Maintaining the entrances and immediate surroundings of the school building.
• Performing seasonal tasks such as snow removal, salting, landscaping, or leaf removal as is necessary.

Our Lady of Mercy School seeks a school custodian to serve on a part-time basis beginning immediately. The ideal candidate will incorporate his or her abilities in custodial work and basic maintenance, commitment to Catholic education, and willingness to work as part of a larger team into the service of our school’s mission: that our students strive to be saints and scholars. The position is hired by and reports to the principal.

Responsibilities

• Supporting and upholding the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church in word and deed
• Encouraging all students towards sanctity and scholarship as a living witness to the Gospel and to the mission of Our Lady of Mercy School
• Working effectively with all members of our school community to create an environment where students, faculty, staff, and families pursue excellence in a spirit of Christian charity
• Cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, hallways, offices, restrooms, cafeteria, gymnasium, and other school facilities

• Supporting the needs of the school as is necessary or requested by the principal or his designee

Requirements

• High School Diploma preferred

• Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and basic maintenance tools
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, climb stairs, and stand/walk for extended periods
• Ability to work indoors or outdoors in all climate conditions
• Availability on evenings and weekends as is necessary for the fulfillment of duties
