Job summary

The University of Vermont is seeking a Custodian to clean and maintain floors, restrooms, and common areas across campus facilities. You will operate cleaning equipment, follow safety procedures and contribute to a clean, healthy environment.

This is a full-time, on-site role requiring physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, a valid driver's license, and willingness to be on-call for after-hours emergencies. The position is non-telework and union-based.

Qualifications

• Elementary school education required.
• Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
• Lifting up to 50 lbs. and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
• Initial employment contingent upon successful completion of physical screening and background check.

Responsibilities

Perform variety of custodial cleaning services, in a team setting, to buildings in support of University facilities. Clean and maintain floor surfaces using approved supplies, chemicals and equipment. Clean water fountains, clean waste receptacles, wash windows. Maintain safe and clean living, learning and work environment. Remove trash and recycled items. Required to be on-call to respond to after-hours emergencies. Comply with all policies and procedures. May operate a University vehicle. Actively engage in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion, environmental sustainability, and delivering great customer service. Under the direct supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, support our department’s mission, "providing the University with a clean, safe, and healthy environment in which to live, learn and work."

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Elementary school education required. Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one and driver’s check may be required. Lifting up to 50 lbs. and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs. occasionally required, specific physical requirements may apply based on specific job functions. Competency in conversational English desirable.
