Job summary

The Custodial Worker will be assigned to fitness facilities operated by Fleet & Family Readiness Division, Navy Region Northwest. The role covers janitorial duties to keep buildings and grounds clean, safe, and well maintained.

Responsibilities include cleaning floors, surfaces, restrooms, glass partitions; moving furniture for events; light maintenance and report supply needs. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work weekends/holidays as needed; NACI background check may be required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and skill sufficient to read signs, follow simple oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work safely while moving lightweight objects.
• Must be able to operate and use janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, cleaning compounds and solutions and perform minor maintenance on this equipment.

• Vacuum, shampoo, sweep, mop, and wax floors as needed with industrial equipment.
• Dust and polish office furniture, dust ledges and woodwork, dispose of trash and recycling properly.
• Clean glass partitions, windows, walls, and ceilings.
• Move tables, chairs, and other equipment for events.
• Maintain restrooms: clean, disinfect, deodorize, restock tissues and soap.
• Change light bulbs and perform light maintenance.
• Ensure adequate cleaning supply levels and report needs.
• Police outside buildings within 10 feet and assist with other duties.
• Occasional labor tasks such as ice control, snow shoveling, light mowing and watering.

Summary

This position is located in fitness facilities operated and administered by Fleet & Family Readiness Division, Command Navy Region Northwest. Incumbent will function as a Custodial Worker, performing a full range of janitorial/custodial duties to maintain clean, safe buildings and grounds.

Duties

Help

Responsible for maintaining the Fitness area, including The Commons and surrounding area.

• Vacuum cleans rugs and draperies; shampoos rungs and up holster;
• Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors using light to heavy industrial-type equipment, adjusting and changing buffers, brushes and other attachments as needed.
• Dusts, waxes and polishes office furniture, dusts ledges and woodwork; empties cigarette disposal cans and waste baskets, disposing of trash and recycling waste appropriately.
• The incumbent cleans glass partitions, inside and outside windows, walls and ceiling fixtures using ladders and scaffolds.
• May be required to move and set up tables, chairs and other equipment as required for events.
• Maintains restrooms in clean, orderly and sanitary condition - cleans, disinfects and deodorizes lavatories, sinks and toilet bowls, replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels and soap.
• Cleans mirrors and water fountains and performs light maintenance such as changing light bulbs.
• Maintains an adequate supply of cleaning materials and advises supervisor when more are needed or when equipment needs repair or replacement.
• Police outside buildings within ten (10) feet or any areas needing cleaned.
• Will perform other related duties as assigned, including occasional laborer tasks such as applying ice control material, shoveling snow, light mowing and watering lawns around assigned buildings and facilities.

• Successful completion of National Agency Background (NACI) Check required.
• This position involves work on workdays and may involve weekends, and holidays, as well as rotating shifts.
• Physical exertion is involved in standing and walking for long periods, some bending, stooping and lifting is required.
• Must have ability to perform moderately strenuous physical labor as unassisted lifting, moving and carrying of supplies and equipment weighting up to 50 pounds is required.
