Job summary

Melwood Horticultural Training Center Inc. is seeking a Custodian to perform custodial tasks at the Washington, DC facility.

Responsibilities include cleaning, polishing, and upkeep of floors, windows, and fixtures, in a role that operates Monday to Friday with core hours 7:00 am – 4:00 pm. The position requires ability to pass a background check and drug screening, and eligibility to obtain a government security clearance.

Qualifications

• Must have 3 to 6 months training or experience
• Must be able to pass security clearance for designated contracts

Responsibilities

• Sweep and mop hallways, stairs and offices
• Empty wastebaskets and dispose the trash as prescribed
• Dust horizontal surfaces
• Empty and wash ashtrays
• Wax and buff floors with prescribed buffers
• Clean glass and windows
• Wash walls and other vertical surfaces
• Sweep and clear snow from outside steps and sidewalks
• Polish kick panels, doorknobs and other fixtures
• Strip and wax floors
• Vacuum rugs
• Mix cleaning solutions
• Maintain issued equipment
• Notify supervisor when supplies and equipment are needed
• All other duties assigned by Custodial Foreman
• Essential Functions responsibilities include standing, walking, lifting, and climbing as required
• Must communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers
