Job summary

The YMCA is seeking a Custodial Team Member to keep our facilities clean, safe, and welcoming. You will dust, sweep, vacuum, mop, clean restrooms, and perform routine inspections, prioritizing tasks to support smooth operations.

You will collaborate with the Y Safety Champion, promote the YMCA's values, and serve as an ambassador of the organization for staff, members, and guests in the Austin community. A positive attitude, reliability, and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds are required.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift up to 20 pounds.
• Experience in custodial or maintenance work is a plus but not required.
• Organized, able to prioritize tasks, and handle multiple assignments.
• Speak and write effectively.
• Foster a culture of inclusion and belonging by valuing differences.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and safety with urgency and prioritization (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, restroom cleaning).

How You Make an Impact

• Maintain the branch's cleanliness and safety with a sense of urgency and prioritization (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning, etc).
• Communicate maintenance needs, and issues, and recommend solutions to branch directors.
• Perform routine inspections and maintenance checks of the facilities as a means of preventative maintenance.
• Ensure the fulfillment of goods in designated areas, such as paper towels, soap, sanitizer, etc.
• Empty and clean wastebaskets throughout the branch.
• Arrange equipment in the custodial storage areas in a neat and orderly manner.
• Work closely with the Y Safety Champion and Care Area Marshal to develop intense cleaning and disinfecting protocol in closed-off areas.
• Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.
• Lead by example the Y's mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.
• Become an Ambassador of the Y's work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Y
