Job summary

Greater Austin YMCA is seeking a Custodial Team Member to keep our facilities clean, safe, and welcoming for members and guests. You will dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and restock supplies while following cleaning protocols.

The role emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and effective communication with branch staff. Previous custodial experience is a plus, and you must be at least 18 with a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain branch cleanliness and safety with prompt prioritization.
• Operate cleaning equipment and restock supplies as needed.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks.
• Communicate maintenance needs and issues to supervisors.
• Collaborate with staff to uphold YMCA safety and cleanliness standards.
• Represent the Y’s values and culture in interactions with members and guests.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

How You Make An Impact

• Maintain the branch's cleanliness and safety with a sense of urgency and prioritization (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning, etc).
• Communicate maintenance needs, and issues, and recommend solutions to branch directors.
• Perform routine inspections and maintenance checks of the facilities as a means of preventative maintenance.
• Ensure the fulfillment of goods in designated areas, such as paper towels, soap, sanitizer, etc.
• Empty and clean wastebaskets throughout the branch.
• Arrange equipment in the custodial storage areas in a neat and orderly manner.
• Work closely with the Y Safety Champion and Care Area Marshal to develop intense cleaning and disinfecting protocol in closed-off areas.
• Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.
• Lead by example the Y's mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests. 
• Become an Ambassador of the Y's work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand. 
• Complete other duties as assigned.
