Salary Range: $15.00 - $16.00 hourly

JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor coordinates activities of workers engaged in cleaning and maintaining premises of commercial, industrial or other establishments. Responsibilities include daily maintenance of all flooring—vinyl tiles, carpet, ceramic tiles and terrazzo—along with the use of scaffolds for high dusting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Designates shift and area work assignments for workers by using FPG Routing forms and reviews and inspects completed work for conformance to standards.
  • Issues daily assignment schedules and allocates work in accordance with available personnel.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations of all assigned custodial personnel.
  • Monitors FPG safety procedures of assigned custodian personnel.
  • Issues supplies and equipment.
  • Resolves employee questions or refers matters to the manager.
  • Verifies employees’ hours worked.
  • Notifies the Assistant Manager or Manager of transport of cleaning equipment to the Vehicle Maintenance Department for repair.
  • Maintains records of cleaning frequencies and special projects.
  • Maintains SDS in each area where supplies are stored and instructs personnel on handling of chemicals.
  • Keeps management abreast of building, equipment, personnel and other pertinent issues.
  • Completes any daily paperwork that his/her position requires.
  • Performs employee counseling and takes appropriate disciplinary action as required by the Human Resources department.
  • Participates in ISO practices and embraces ISO principles and philosophies in the performance of principal duties and responsibilities.
  • Makes safety the first consideration above all other responsibilities; follows all safety rules and uses sound judgment for the protection of himself, co‑workers, client personnel, the general public and property.
  • Participates in safety training and attends safety meetings as scheduled by the Supervisor.
  • Responsible for reporting unsafe conditions or practices.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Custodial Supervisor supervises subordinates and oversees projects in the Custodial Department. The supervisor is responsible for the overall direction and coordination of activities during his/her assigned shift.

The supervisor delegates responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. A minimum of three (3) years of related experience within the last five (5) years in a similar service–related position.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, write rational correspondence and memos, complete simple reports and present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers, multiply and divide with tens and hundreds, and perform these operations using American units of weight and volume.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and solve situations with a few concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Eligible to obtain all licenses and certifications required by local and/or state jurisdictions. Valid state driver’s license with clear MVR is required.

Other Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of industrial floor care, restroom cleaning techniques, and capability to operate floor care tools and equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Continuous standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying from 20lbs. up to 50+lbs., pushing/pulling, reaching with hands and arms.
  • Occasional sitting, stooping/bending/squatting/crawling/crouching.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment includes frequent work near moving mechanical parts, high and precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.

WORK SITUATIONS / SCHEDULE

Irregular hours (overtime, weekends, shifts, flextime, etc.), working alone or as part of a group, meeting frequent deadlines, and operating plants such as forklifts, man lifts, scrubbers, Kabota, company vehicles, and golf carts.

  • Color: ability to identify and distinguish colors.
