Job Overview

The Custodial Supervisor performs responsible supervisory work involving the assignment and direct supervision of custodial employees in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, offices, classrooms, fitness centers, laboratories, furnishings and equipment as well as building entrances and exterior walkways. The Custodial Supervisor is also responsible for training new employees in proper custodial procedures for the use of manually operated tools, electrically‑powered machines, cleaning compounds, solvents and chemicals.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises the activities of custodial staff directly using verbal and written instructions in compliance with guidelines and independent judgment.
  • Ensures that custodial services meet company needs by scheduling work activities and adjusting workloads to compensate for absences, changing priorities, and special projects.
  • Monitors service quality by inspecting custodial personnel’s work and directing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Develops an effective team by providing instruction on safe and efficient methods, evaluating performance, and conducting performance evaluations with retention recommendations.
  • Assists in hiring qualified employees by participating in interviews and making employment recommendations.
  • Enforces company rules and policies regarding employee conduct, issuing verbal warnings, written reprimands, and recommending progressive disciplinary action.
  • Ensures that custodial personnel have necessary equipment and supplies, issuing supplies and completing request forms as needed.
  • Evaluates new custodial supplies and equipment through testing and recommending their suitability.
  • Advises the immediate supervisor on building and facility conditions via regular inspections and reports with emphasis on needed repairs.
  • Maintains accurate administrative records and reports regarding personnel, reviewing timesheets and monitoring absences.
  • Performs daily custodial duties as needed.
  • Provides continuity of services during emergency conditions by performing related custodial tasks.
  • Assists in ensuring that specified contract services are performed by inspecting contractor work and advising the supervisor of any deficiencies.

Equipment or Software Knowledge

Minimum Requirements

HS Diploma/GED is required. 4+ years of experience in custodial services.

Essential Physical Functions
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Be able to stand/walk for up to 95% of the normal work shift.
  • Be able to work in conditions below 32°F or above 90°F as occasion would dictate.
