Job summary

Cal State East Bay in Hayward, CA is seeking a Custodial Coordinator to supervise daily custodial operations and provide leadership to Lead Custodians and Custodians in planning, implementation, and maintenance of custodial programs.

Qualifications

PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary placement depends onqualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the rangeof $5,274.00 per month to $6,558.00 per month (Step 1 - Step12).

About the Position

The Custodial Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the dailyand short-term operations of Custodial Services. This role providescomprehensive administrative and operational support by offeringboth specific and general direction and leadership to LeadCustodians and Custodians in the planning, implementation,delivery, and maintenance of custodial programs and services.

Responsibilities
Quality Assurance and Strategic Program Leadership
  • Consults with managers and lead custodians to discuss problemareas and identify means of improvements.
  • Facilitates the development of the custodial cleaning programsto achieve the highest possible custodial APPA levels.
  • Conducts inspections as required to ensure that qualitystandards are being maintained.
  • Interfaces with faculty and staff members, following up on workrequests, inquiries, and related concerns.
  • Determines the replacement or additional equipment needsforall activities.
  • Works effectively with department staff and managers incoordinating operations and work schedules.
  • Effectively oversees process changes, from conceptualdiscussions with stakeholders to training frontline employees.
  • Prioritizes program goals, implementation strategies, workrequirements and communicates them effectively to staff.
  • Helps plan, organize, and communicate when starting newprograms with staff and building occupants.
  • Plans, organizes, schedules, and oversees the custodialtraining program.
  • Provides positive leadership for staff in all Custodial programareas.
Support/Oversee Personnel and Daily Operations
  • Assist with day-to-day custodial operations, provides guidanceon best practices, and assists employees with problem-solving.
  • Adjusts and modifies daily custodial assignments to meetoperational needs.
  • Provide supervisory coverage during absences or leave, ensuringadequate oversight and continuity of custodial operations.
Program Administration
  • Establishes long- and short-range goals for each of theactivities managed.
  • Coordinated closely with deans, department heads andcollege/department staff in achieving our cleaning goals.
  • Operational recommendations of the Managers of CustodialServices.
  • Conducts building surveys to determine program staffingneeds.
  • Assist with training for new employees.
  • Provides input for employee performance evaluations andprepares recommended annual evaluations for submission toManagement.
  • Responds to inquiries from Facilities Management staff andmanagers concerning status of operations.
  • Communicates staff and coordinator concerns to appropriatemanagers.
  • Works with Microsoft Office software, and computerizedmaintenance management (Web TMA) and accounting system databases asneeded.
  • Coordinates other duties as assigned.
  • May coordinate tasks for other departments (example: Grounds),as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Must possess a working knowledge of the full range of Custodian/ Lead Custodian work as described in the Job Description and JobClassification.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience of directcustodial coordination experience in an institution or environmentcomparable to the University.
  • Ability to organize custodial projects and independentlydetermine plans and priorities for the projects.
  • Ability to independently develop programs, policies, andprocedures for continual improvement.
  • Demonstrated customer service attitude.
  • Ability to interpret and apply university policies, proceduresand regulations.
  • Ability to develop, interpret and apply accurate, multiple andprecise custodial operations.
  • Ability to perform product research and make comparisons ofdifferent custodial work practices, methodologies, products andequipment.
  • Ability to train others on new custodial skills, practices andprocedures and provide leadership direction.
  • Ability to effectively write and present reports.
  • Ability to work in an environment of demanding pressures andshort deadlines.
  • Proficiency in the use of office software programs, technologyand systems, spreadsheets and database management programs andcommunication.
  • Proficiency with PC based software used for training andplanning work schedules and tasks.
  • Working knowledge of floor care, general cleaning, and restroomsanitizing procedures.
  • Working knowledge of custodial equipment, procedures andsupplies.
  • Possess the skills and ability to directly/indirectlycoordinate a large staff including the planning, assigning,reviewing, and evaluating the work of others.
  • Proficient in the English language, writing and oral.
  • Knowledge of record keeping which includes maintaining records,logs, and filing systems.
  • Possession of (or ability to obtain by date of hire) a validClass C California Driver's License.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
  • More than five years of progressive experience in operationsand supervision of custodial functions.
  • Ability to perform basic math and make accurate estimates andprojections.
  • Proficiency of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Condition(s) of Employment

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including LiveScan,as appropriate), that may include, but is not limited to: criminalrecords check, verification of academic credentials, licenses,certificates, credit history, professional references and/orverification of work history is required for employment.
