Job summary

Le Jardin Academy in Kailua, Hawai’i, is seeking a Custodial Associate (Full-time) to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary learning environment. The role runs Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with daily cleaning, restroom sanitation, and floor care across classrooms, gym, offices, and outdoor spaces.

The Custodian will join a team led by the Facilities Manager to support student success and staff wellbeing by ensuring well-kept facilities and timely response to cleaning needs.

Qualifications

• One-year related experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in a school setting is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning duties: sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting custodial equipment.
• Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, locker rooms, break areas and other spaces.
• Clean high-touch surfaces daily (doorknobs, light switches).
• Empty trash and recycling; maintain waste disposal.
• Maintain cleanliness of floors, windows and surfaces; deep clean floors as scheduled.
• Assist setup and cleanup for daily lunch service.
• Respond to cleaning/sanitation requests from supervisor.
• Participate in periodic deep cleaning during breaks under supervision.

Purpose

Job Scope

The custodian will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in our facilities. This role involves a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure that our buildings are well-kept for employees and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting operating custodial equipment.

Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, lockers, breakroom, concession and other areas as assigned.

Clean and sanitize high-touch surfaces, door knobs, light switches daily.

Emptying trash and recycling bins, ensuring proper disposal.

Maintain cleanliness of floors, windows, and surfaces.

Strip, wax, buff and deep clean floors as scheduled

Wash windows, mirrors, whiteboards, and walls/sills as needed.

Assist in the setup and cleanup of facilities for daily lunch service

Responds to reactive calls for cleaning and sanitation

Participate in periodic deep cleaning during school breaks or as directed by the Facilities Manager

Reports any maintenance issues or safety concerns to the Facilities Manager

Follows safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment

Works in classrooms, gymnasiums, offices, and restrooms, as well as outdoor spaces in courtyards and around buildings.

Other Duties

Assists with event setups and breakdowns for meetings and special events.
