Overview
Coordinate curriculum in line with standards and provide related materials and information to teachers. Collaborate with behaviorists to facilitate learning and provide direct instruction to teachers and others. Plan activities designed to reach goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
STANDARD 1: Professional Duties
- Coordinate curriculum with New York State Standards for Learning, the Common Core Standards for Preschool, and the curriculum as outlined in the STAR and Creative Curriculum.
- Provide curricular materials and information to teachers regarding appropriate grade-level alternative academic work.
- Coordinate with behaviorists to facilitate optimal learning and generalization of skills.
- Provide direct instruction to teachers, related service providers, and residential team.
- Plan activities to meet the goals and objectives of the Individual Education Plan and New York State standards.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings.
- Participate in annual review processes with the school district.
- Coordinate school programs with home teams.
- Attend on-site and off-site seminars as required.
- Attend team meetings with residential staff.
- Ensure related service and teaching staff coordinate learning activities.
STANDARD 2: School Environment
- Responsible for the health and safety of all students during the school day.
- Establish effective communication with parents of students.
STANDARD 3: Professional Behaviors
- Conduct oneself appropriately in the school setting.
- Adhere to program-specific policies and procedures.
- Participate in program-wide activities.
- Seek opportunities to enhance knowledge relevant to students in the school.
STANDARD 4: Professional Development
- Attend and participate in required in-services and staff development.
- Participate in supervisory sessions as requested.
- Review standardized testing to assess student ability levels.
- Collaborate with clinical service providers to ensure comprehensive programs for each student.
STANDARD 5: Organizational Policies and Regulations
- Follow the Code of Ethical Conduct.
- Adhere to emergency/disaster preparedness, fire/safety protocols, and infection control procedures.
- Participate in in-service education activities.
- Maintain professionalism in attendance, punctuality, appearance, and self-development activities.
- Complete annual physical examinations and Mantoux testing.
STANDARD 6: Additional Duties
- Understand the needs of children and visitors for each age group.
- Address safety and psychological needs of special age groups.
- Support the needs of special groups, including hearing impaired and physically challenged students.
- Maintain confidentiality of children and families.
- Interact courteously and professionally with children, families, visitors, vendors, and staff.
- Exhibit a friendly and approachable attitude.
- Respond promptly to requests and refer to appropriate team members.
- Promote teamwork, cooperation, and respectful relationships among colleagues.
- Take responsibility for providing high-quality service.
STANDARD 7: Cultural Competencies
- Communicate effectively across cultures, disabilities, genders, ethnicities, and races.
- Manage personal behaviors to foster an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment.
- Deliver culturally responsive services to students and families.
Qualifications
Education: MA/MS in Special Education with permanent certification in special education, 5 years’ experience with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder required. NYS Birth to 2 years old certification required. School Building Leader Certificate/SAS required.
Experience and Skills: Trained in Applied Behavior Analysis principles. Familiar with NY State Standards for Learning, Alternate Assessment protocols, Creative Curriculum, and Common Core for Preschool. Experience supervising preschool children with special needs in both integrated and self-contained classrooms. Must be personable and able to communicate effectively with families and school district representatives.
Physical requirements may include lifting and transferring students.
