Job summary

UTMB Health's Old Red Medical Museum on the Galveston campus seeks a motivated Federal Work-Study student to assist with historical collections, museum operations and behind-the-scenes activities. You will gain hands-on experience working with unique collections and supporting conservation, research initiatives, and related museum activities.

The Student Assistant will report to the Curator and collaborate with the conservator, administrative staff and UTMB’s Students For Old Red, while

Qualifications

• Must have a Federal Work Study Award and be enrolled in a UTMB degree program.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Strong initiative, attention to detail, and time management.

Responsibilities

• Collections inventory: Undertake an inventory of the historical collections and update the records in the museum’s database.
• Collections organization: Assist in numbering and labeling to improve the organization of the collections.
• Historical research: Undertake research on the history of medicine at UTMB.
• University representation: Serve as an ambassador for UTMB and Old Red during museum events.
• Team collaboration: Work effectively with museum staff, the UTMB community and visitors alike
