Job summary

The Mott-Warsh Collection in Flint, Michigan, seeks a Curatorial Assistant to support curatorial, exhibition, and educational programming. This full-time role reports to the Director, Curator, and Collection Educator, collaborating with MW Gallery staff on collections management and programming.

The ideal candidate will assist with documentation, research, and publication of materials while engaging visitors and researchers in a vibrant, diasporic art environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, or related field with at least 1 year of experience.
• MA in art history with modern/contemporary emphasis preferred.
• Strong writing, research, and English language skills.
• Familiarity with collection management is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist in collection management, documentation, and care.
• Support research, planning, and installation/de-installation of exhibitions (on-site and off-site).
• Research artworks, artists, and historical contexts for exhibition narratives.
• Produce and edit print and multimedia educational materials including wall texts and labels.
• Co-manage updates to the MW Collection website.
• Coordinate loans, acquisitions, appraisals, and deaccessions with internal and external partners.
• Assist with planning public programs and visiting artists coordination.
• Maintain digital and physical collection files and image use records.
• Support the MW Registrar with inventory and off-site loans inspections.
