Job summary

The Blanton Museum of Art at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a Curatorial Assistant for Prints, Drawings, and European Art. You will support the Curator and Assistant Curator by caring for paper works, conducting research, and providing administrative assistance.

The role requires a BA in art history or related field, strong writing, and precise attention to detail; the position is 40 hours weekly, non-exempt, on UT’s campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Art History, Studio Art, Museum Studies, or a related field.
• Strong interest in works on paper.
• Skilled in art historical research.
• Ability to follow protocols in handling delicate works of art with care.
• Demonstrated accuracy and strong attention to detail; superior organizational skills.
• Works well independently and collaboratively; excellent written communication.

Responsibilities

• Assists in maintaining proper housing of the works on paper collection, including monitoring physical climate and storage areas.
• Carries out art handling for collections care, exhibitions, and rotations; may assist with art movement for classes, research, and museum events.
• Maintains records and enters data into the TMS collection management database.
• Processes new acquisitions in collaboration with curators, registrars, and preparators.
• Coordinates communication with Blanton staff and collaborators; assists with research and interpretive materials.
• May supervise undergraduate and graduate interns and assist in special projects or digital publications.
• Performs other administrative tasks including travel and purchasing paperwork.
• Coordinates with Blanton and UT staff for maintenance of study room; monitors study room when artwork is on view; reports usage.
