Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, through the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission, seeks a qualified Curator to manage and interpret the Ephrata Cloister collections and 18th-century structures in Lancaster County. The role covers approximately 4,000 artifacts, 1,050 study items, loans, and library resources, plus landscape features.

Responsibilities include collection management, artifact care, historical research, public interpretation, and tour support.

Qualifications

One year as Museum Curator or equivalent curatorial experience in History or Decorative Arts with a relevant master's degree or museum internship.
Master's degree in American History or related field with museum studies coursework/internship.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training in curatorial work.

Responsibilities

Collection Management: handle acquisitions, deaccessions, loans, cataloging, and inventorying artifacts and archival materials.
Artifact Care: store, clean, and protect items; provide online access to materials.
Historical Research: investigate site history and background of collection pieces; respond to public inquiries.
Public Interpretation: develop and share information to help visitors understand artifacts and history.
Tour Support: assist with planning and leading tours focused on historical topics.
