Job summary

The Glasser Curator position at Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block originates, develops, and presents innovative research and new museum projects focused on the American West and American Art, managing the permanent collection of over 10,000 works.

Reporting to the Chief of Curatorial and Convergent Practice, the role guides collection management policy, strategic collecting, and engages in collaborations for exhibitions, education, translation, and fundraising activities.

Qualifications

• MA or PhD in art history and at least seven years museum experience.
• Extensive knowledge of American West and North American art.
• Familiarity with collections management standards and NAGPRA.
• Ability to engage diverse audiences and stakeholders.
• Experience in grant proposals and fundraising materials.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary liaison to staff, researchers and the public on collection content.
• Expand, refine, and research the permanent collection.
• Develop and administer collection management policy and multi-year strategic plan.
• Contribute curatorial insight to inventories and acquisitions justifications.
• Lead exhibitions planning and coordinate bilingual interpretive materials.
