Job description

Primary Location: OFFICE OF SR. UNIV DEAN FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Bargaining Unit: No

The City University of New York (CUNY) and the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) have worked in partnership for over 30 years to support cash assistance recipients enrolled at CUNY. Launched in 2016, CUNY EDGE is the latest initiative that balances advising and personal supports with career development while maintaining students’ compliance with HRA regulations. This model blends elements of successful college completion programs with paid work and internship opportunities, personal development, and academic excellence. Serving over 3,500 students across 20 colleges each year, CUNY EDGE is led by a Central Office team of eight supporting over 60 staff at the colleges who provide direct services to students. For more information about CUNY EDGE, visit cuny.edu/cunyedge. Housed within the Office of Academic Affairs in the CUNY Central Office, CUNY EDGE is one of several student support initiatives that support CUNY’s dual mission of access and excellence to improve the pathways into and through the University’s colleges to timely graduation and fulfilling careers. Training and staff development have been the cornerstone of the Central Office’s work with college partners.

This redefined role creates a dedicated position to support the planning, delivery, and maintenance of professional development programming and resources across the Central Office and partner colleges. Reporting to the CUNY EDGE Deputy Director for Program Management, the Senior Associate will design and deliver training and technical assistance to strengthen program quality, implementation fidelity, and cross-college coordination, while also supporting system alignment, college best practices that expand student support services, and improving service delivery. A strong candidate for this position is committed to high-quality learning experiences and can operate independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a program-wide strategy for training and technical assistance, including staff assessments, frameworks, tools, and approaches that can be applied across all colleges
  • Design and deliver high-quality multi-campus staff training events, including in-person and virtual (asynchronous and synchronous) convenings related to advisement, career development, leadership, data, and technology, among others
  • Facilitate meetings, convenings, and cross-college working sessions, including working groups and learning communities, ensuring inclusive participation and actionable outcomes
  • As needed, provide ongoing learning opportunities, including individual & group consultation, on site/virtual support and coaching
  • Engage college partners in the development and implementation of training and professional development assessments, events, and resources
  • Execute the logistical and technical components of various learning initiatives and professional development events, including scheduling, event announcements and promotional materials, event setup, attendee communications, and virtual platform configuration
  • Create instructional support materials such as learner manuals and other course materials, design templates, rubrics, FAQs, and assessment tools for workshop and webinar delivery
  • Manage project work plans, timelines, and processes to ensure timely completion and high-quality deliverables
  • Serve as a co-producer for online events, handling chat functions, recordings, participant engagement tools (e.g., polls, Q&A), and follow-up tasks
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings within OAA, CUNY EDGE, and the partner colleges
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • MINIMUM Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required
  • At least two years of experience facilitating or teaching in postsecondary or professional learning environments
  • Strong communication, presentation, project management, and relationship-building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement in-person and virtual learning experiences and resources for staff development
  • Strong facilitation skills, with experience leading meetings, cross-sector working groups, advisory bodies, or learning communities in multiple modes to diverse audiences
  • Exceptional written communication skills, including experience producing training materials, manuals, or implementation guides grounded in field-based work
  • Working knowledge of instructional design theory and adult learning principles
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment with multiple priorities that need to be effectively managed, while maintaining composure and flexibility in a structured environment
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to independently resolve routine and complex issues
