Bolton & Menk has an exciting opportunity for a Cultural Resource Project Manager to join our team in Iowa. We are looking to add a Cultural Resource Project Manager who will help foster our mission that All People Should Live in Safe, Sustainable and Beautiful Communities! This position could be located out of either our Des Moines, Ames or Algona office locations (whichever is an easier commute for the selected candidate).

What You Will Be Doing:
  1. Responsible for conducting & leading field staff on archaeological surveys, excavation and reporting including:
    • Site recording and evaluations
    • Archaeological testing and data recovery
    • Provides project management to Professional Engineers and Project Managers for services related to cultural resource surveys
    • Remains organized and communicates project needs to staff
  2. Responsible for cultural resources construction monitoring which includes:
    • Coordinating with construction and subcontractor staff
    • Soils and features recording
    • Faunal and osteological identification
    • Report writing and production
  3. Preparing scopes of work and budgets for cultural resources related projects and review project billing
  4. Analyzes and documents prehistoric and historic sites
  5. Coordinates, communicates, and maintains a strong working relationship with agencies such as the Office of the State Archaeologists (OSA), State Preservation Office (SHPO), Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Tribal Historic Preservation Offices, and others.
  6. Leads negotiations with federal and state agencies regarding cultural or environmental impact and mitigation
  7. Supervises and coaches direct reports and mentors other team members
What We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Anthropology and Archaeology or related field required
  • Master of Science or higher in Anthropology or Archaeology or a closely related field
  • Five (5) or more years of experience as a principal investigator
  • Knowledge of Midwest (Iowa) prehistory, diagnostic artifacts, and experience in MN/ND/SD or Southeast is a plus but not required
  • Understanding & following Federal Regulations, Laws, and Executive Orders related to environmental review requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret USGS topographic maps and aerial imagery
  • Effective interpersonal, written & verbal communication skills
  • Effective time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • General knowledge and skills in GIS and its planning uses
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
